Biagio
has been with the Windsor FC Nationals since the very
beginning. Biagio was a player with the Windsor FC Nationals
youth teams from 1986 (under 16 ) to 1989 (under 19)
and participated in the Ontario Soccer League ( currently
known as the Ontario Youth Soccer League ). After 1989
Biagio continued to play within the senior program while
turning to coaching. Biagio started coaching in 1991
and then was elected to the Board of Directors in varying
capacities and chairman of the Can-Am International
Soccer Tournament. Other coaching experience includes
Senior Men from 2000 to 2002 and currently Brennan High
School's Senior Boys (since 1998).
Although experience is vast in playing and administration,
coaching continues to be his passion. As a certified
Level 3 coach and approximately 15 years of coaching
at all levels Biagio prides himself on developing players
while instituting a playing style provided the strengths
of the team. It is very important to realize that teams
may have to vary in playing style to be successful ,
and this is evident between his current U-18 Nationals
( tactical with ball movement ) and Brennan High School
(very tough defensive style) .
This being said it is preferred by Biagio to play a
style which consists of possession and high percentage
decisions and tactics. This includes continuous ball
movement in all directions while players are continuously
moving to gain or create space.
All practices are well planned and emphasis is based
on hard work, ball movement and movement without the
ball. In addition other fundamentals such as shooting,
goaltending, dribbling and defense are always practiced.
Biagio takes great pride in his practices, their content
and most importantly player enthusiasm. Player enthusiasm
can only be gained by running sound, well organized
practices where players enjoy working, learning, developing
and having fun.
In addition to the above it is Biagio's theory that
coaches and players must love the game and have a passion
for it to succeed at the highest levels possible whether
individually or as a team.
